A publicly traded, global food company with over 12,000 employees and over $9 billion in annual revenue was experiencing rapid growth. The legal department needed to evolve to support the company’s aggressive business objectives. Senior in-house counsel spent too much time on routine contracting tasks, limiting their ability to focus on strategic advisory work.
We led a multi-phase engagement. First, we gathered requirements and recommended a CLM technology, then conducted stakeholder surveys, interviews, document reviews and data analysis to assess the current operating model. We also reviewed the client’s contract artifacts and recommended enhancements.
In the next phase, we standardized contract templates and playbooks for key transaction types. We trained stakeholders to use the new artifacts and supported the configuration of these templates in the selected CLM system. Our team also provided change management support to help the legal department and business teams adopt the new processes.
Finally, we partnered with the client to begin mapping out a global contracting center of excellence, which would centralize and streamline contracting operations across regions.
Outcome
The client successfully implemented the enterprise CLM and adopted standardized contracting practices designed to increase efficiency and free senior in-house counsel to focus on complex, strategic work. The foundation is now in place for the global contracting center of excellence to further optimize operations.
